The Andhra Pradesh High Court has sentenced 5 IAS officers from the state to jail, for having illegally occupied the land of a woman named Sai Brahma from a village called Tallapaka in Nellore district. The woman filed every legal case against the five members seeking justice, but a blind eye was turned towards all of those petitions.
Finally, the AP HC took the petition and has now sentenced five of these IAS officers to jail, along with fines. The HC had previously sent notices to these five members, asking them to pay the woman the necessary compensation, but the officers did not heed the HC’s orders. As a result, the HC filed contempt of court cases against these members and sentenced them to jail.
Manmohan Singh, an IS officer, who is now retired, has been jailed for a month and fined Rs 1,000, while Nellore Collector Seshagiri Babu has been fined Rs 1,000, and jailed for two weeks. Finance Ministry official SS Rawat has been jailed for a month and fined Rs 1,000, and former Nellore Collector Muthyala Raju has been jailed for two weeks and fined Rs 1,000. Muthyalaraju is currently holding key responsibilities in CMO. Another IAS officer, Imtiaz, has also been sentenced to one month in jail, with Rs. 1000 fine. All these people have been given a month’s duration to appeal in the HC, and have been suspended in the meanwhile. It is now to be seen what will happen.
