Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has been arrested by the police after he was sentenced to three years in jail in the Toshakhana case on Saturday.
Imran Khan was found guilty of corrupt practices. Besides sentencing to 3 years prison period, an Islamabad trial court also barred him from participating in active politics for five years.
“Imran Khan deliberately submitted fake details (of Toshakhana gifts) to the ECP and is found guilty of corrupt practices,” the judge said.
Mr Khan is accused of profiting from selling valuable state gifts when he was in governance. However, the 70-year-old politician denied any violation and his legal team stated they would file a prompt appeal.
The chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has also been directed to pay Rs 100,000 fine in the case.
