England all-rounder Moeen Ali retires from Test cricket

England all-rounder Moeen Ali on Monday announced his retirement from Test cricket.

“I felt like I was done, to be honest. I was hoping to play the last Test – there were a couple of milestones I wanted to pass – but once that game got called off, I realised that was it,” he said on the ECB website, referring to the recent five-match Test series that was played between India and England.

Ali said that he is 34 now, and he wants to play as long as he can and wants to enjoy his cricket.

Moeen Ali made his Test debut against Sri Lanka at Lord’s on June 12, 2014. His first Test wicket was that of Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara, who was batting on 147. He played 64 Test matches, taking 195 wickets including 5 five-wicket hauls. He also has five Test centuries to his name, scoring 2914 runs in the longest format.
