The PRC reforms that the Andhra Pradesh government released for the state government employees disappointed everyone severely, as the employees would now be drawing much lesser than their existing salaries. Ever since then, the employees have been demanding that the state government withdraw its GO and continue giving the employees their existing salaries.
However, despite their continued demands, the AP government didn’t go back on its decision, and even kept silent on the issue, which led the employees to call for a strike from the jobs and even protests. The government has been trying to make sure that there are no protests carried out in the state, but a large scale protest was carried out in Vijayawada with a sea of participants, resulting in the failure of the government’s attempts.
This failure led the DGP to the CM, with the DGP meeting the CM at the CM’s official residence in Tadepalli, where their meeting lasted for about a half-hour. The police chief is understood to have explained to the chief minister how the employees reached Vijayawada in disguise ahead of the protest and took the police by surprise. The chief minister is believed to have given instructions to the DGP to avoid the recurrence of such incidents. On the whole, it is now to be seen if the AP government will give in to the demands of the employees, or if it will continue on the same path, leading to its own political demise.
