The trend of releasing movies in multiple languages with a pan-India appeal has become common, but not every production team pays meticulous attention to the dubbing process, leading to embarrassing mistakes.
A recent example is Prabhu Deva’s movie “WOLF,” whose teaser poster displayed the Telugu title “Wulfa,” inadvertently translating to a curse in Telugu. Renowned filmmakers like AM Ratnam and talented actors like Vishal, Surya, and Vikram have taken special care in dubbing their films, preserving the essence of the content and respecting regional languages.
However, some filmmakers and stars have not been careful, leading to trolling and poor reflections on their attention to detail. Using Google Translate or solely relying on a star’s popularity may not suffice.
Caution is necessary, especially for movies with lesser-known actors. The makers of “WOLF” should realize their mistake and address it promptly. It’s essential to understand the significance of accurate translations to maintain the film’s credibility and avoid negative repercussions.
