Super Star Rajinikanth’s following in Telugu states is unimaginable. He is the top star from Tamil Nadu who equally enjoys superb craze in Telugu states. But that is the past, at present Rajini is struggling to hold his forte.
His recent movies tanked at the Telugu box office bit time. After Robo, there is no solid hit for Rajini in Telugu. All his recent movies, 2.0, Kabali, Kaala, Petta failed to live upto the expectations which took a beating for Super Star’s market here.
Once, Rajini movies used to do pre release business of around 35 Crores but now it came to one third of that. Rajini’s latest film Darbar has got decent stuff at the box office but the buzz is quite low. Telugu audience are eagerly waiting for Two Telugu biggies Ala Vaikunthapuramulo and Sarileru Neekevvaru.
However, Darbar has done a business of 14.2 Cr in Telugu States which is more than that of Petta which did below average performance. Petta has done a pre release business of around 13 Crores. While it is 32 and 33 Crores for Kabali and Kaala respectively. Rajini’s big budget film 2.0 was released with 71 Crores at stake.
Overall pre release business details of Darbar are as follows:
Nizam: Rs 5.2 Cr
Ceeded: Rs 3.1 Cr
Andhra: Rs 6.2 Cr
Total:14.5 Cr
Which means that Darbar needs to collect around 15 Cr to be termed as a hit. This is really a tough task for Rajini. Only block buster talk for Darbar could save this film.
