In the wake of alarming rise in COVID-19 cases, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha are few of the states that have prolonged the lockdown voluntarily after a shoot up in Covid-19 cases.
Assam
The Assam government has prolonged lockdown in the Kamrup (Metro) district for seven more days after the 14-day lockdown imposition ended on Sunday.
As per the reports, Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna prompted directives immediately on Saturday night by announcing the extension of lockdown in Guwahati till July 19.
The four-page lockdown order shows that there had been greater incidence of COVID-19 spread to a larger extent occurring in nearly the entire district of Kamrup Metropolitan. “All government and private offices would remain closed. All business and commercial establishments, shops and trade activities shall remain shut except all standalone grocery and stationary shops, which would be allowed to operate in between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m,” states the order.
Arunachal Pradesh
Recently Lockdown in capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, Itanagar too has been extended till July 20 to keep a check of coronavirus pandemic.
“To check the spread at the very initial stages, the lockdown of Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) has been extended till 20th July 2020,” Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh announced today.
He informed that contact tracing will be more intensified during this phase. Due to the spike in covid-19 cases, extensive surveillance will be initiated at C, E and F sector in Naharlagun area.
Meghalaya
The Meghalaya legislature announced a 48 hour lockdown in capital city, Shillong from July 13 to 14. The decision of the Meghalaya government was announced on Twitter by chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday evening.
Karnataka
A week-long lockdown was declared in Bengaluru from 8pm on July 14 to 5am on July 22nd. Everything would be shut except essential services that include hospitals, medical shops, milk shops and grocery stores.
Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh enforced a lockdown from 10pm on 10th July, which will stop at early morning 5am on Monday i.e 13th July. Municipal bodies in the state introduced a cleanliness drive for three days in a row, including one in Lucknow’s containment zones.
Bihar
District magistrate (DM) Abhishek Singh issued a lockdown order on Friday evening regarding the imposition of partial lockdown in 5 districts in Bihar being effective from Sunday. It includes Nalanda, Vaishali, Begusarai, Jamui and Gopalganj. As per the order, not more than 50% of the non-essential shops should remain open.
Odisha
A weekend lockdown started in Odisha in 23 of the entire 30 districts. The lockdown was imposed in the state’s 11 districts earlier in June. Subsequent to the 36 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in Malkangiri district, the district collector, Manish Agarwal on Sunday announced a one week lockdown in two civic body areas.
West Bengal
While addressing the press meet recently, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said complete lockdown will be enforced in the containment zones for a week that would be effective from 5 PM on Thursday i.e July 8, to keep a check to the rising covid-19 cases.
