Popular musician Kaithapram Viswanathan has passed away on Wednesday afternoon. He breathed his last at MVR Cancer Center treatment while undergoing treatment for cancer. He was 58. He was the younger brother of renowned musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri.
Born in a family of musicians in Kaithapram in 1963, Viswanathan earned the ‘ganabhooshanam’ title from the Swathi Thirunal Music College in Thiruvananthapuram.
Having made his debut as an independent music director with the 1997 film Kaliyattam, Viswanathan composed music for over 20 movies, including Kannaki, Thilakkam and Daivanamathil. His background score for Kannaki won the Kerala state film award in 2001.
Viswanathan is survived by wife Gauri and three children. Several celebrities including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and leader of opposition V D Satheesan condoled the untimely death of Viswanathan.
