The COVID-19 outbreak in Andhra Pradesh halted the local body elections after the nomination process was completed. This irked the ruling YSRCP government and they battled with the election commission so hard only to replace the State Election Commissioner to their liking.
Now, as the central government has eased down the restrictions all over the country, it seems the local body elections are not too far for the AP people. As the Central government has permitted the liquor shops to open in all Green and Orange Zones, Jagan’s government is willing to make their move regarding the local body elections.
Much to their encouragement, the Election Commission on Friday announced to hold polls to nine legislative council seats in Maharashtra on May 21. This gave an opportunity to the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray an opportunity to become an MLC within the six-month deadline for being elected to either Vidhan Sabha or Vidhan Parishad.
So, in Andhra Pradesh also, the election commission may heed to the voice of the government as Maharashtra is the worst-hit state in the country by COVID-19 and they have favored them to give an opportunity to their CM to become an MLC. Most likely the elections may start and end in May in Andhra Pradesh.
