Citizens of India had been eagerly waiting to bag a chance to receive the covid vaccine jabs after the health workers’ vaccination drive.
Health ministry suggested that the general public must opt when and at which immunisation centre they would want to take the vaccine. The online Co-WIN platform that would resume the next phase of the drive soon is likely to be tweaked accordingly.
As on Tuesday, 20,30,728 beneficiaries, who were first in line were vaccinated in the country. Before the public receive the inoculation, next in line scheduled includes essential service staff such as sanitation workers, police and the armed forces.
A health official stated database of the first two groups — with approximately 30 million people has been documented.
“Going forward, we plan to make it a people/citizen-centric system, wherein they self-register and should be able to choose the centre, time and day. Since it will largely be an elderly population that will line up for vaccination, the government looks to make it as convenient for them as possible,” said the official, who is involved in the vaccine drive.
