The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has given the green signal for the distribution of another vaccine in the country as part of its efforts to provide the vaccine to all Indians by the end of December.
The DCGI has granted permission to Cipla, a multi-national pharma company, to import and sell the vaccine. This is the fourth vaccine to get a nod for emergency use in India after the country made Covishield, Covaxin and Russia’s Sputnik.
Cipla applied to the DCGI for permission to import the Moderna vaccine. The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the emergency use of the two-dose Moderna mRNA vaccine in Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom. It is learned that crores of doses have already been distributed in this regard.
“New drug permission has been granted to Moderna, the first internationally developed vaccine. This new drug permission is for restricted use,” said Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog.
