A lot of protests have been going on in Visakhapatnam ever since the Central Government announced its plans of privatising the Visakha Steel Plant. The Visakha Steel Plant has been a pride for the people of Visakhapatnam right from the very beginning, and thousands of lives depend on the steel plant.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had even written a letter to the Prime Minister, requesting for the steel plant to not be privatised. The YSRCP government is also about to pass a motion in the assembly very soon, against the privatisation of the plant. Every single political party of Andhra Pradesh is against the privatisation of the steel plant and has been very vocal about it. Even the AP BJP members are against it, and even recently went to Delhi, to dissuade the BJP leaders from privatising the plant.
However, looks like the NDA government is not about to take a step back. According to the latest reports, a blueprint has been worked out by the centre for the privatisation of the steel plant. A bid document is being prepared, for which the centre is gathering technical details, plant capacity and plant assets so that they can be included in the said document.
Once the details have been obtained, and the bid document is ready, interested private organisations will be called upon, to acquire the steel plant. Despite so many protests, and being very much aware of them, the Central Government is said to be unyielding about its decision.
