Mani Ratnam is a big director, and there’s no doubt about that. He has given some of the biggest gems for Indian cinema, with his extensive filmography. Having said that, the director has failed to give a really memorable film in a long time, and everyone was hoping that his magnum opus, Ponniyin Selvan, would be that long awaited memorable film. The first part of the film was extensively promoted and even had good expectations on it. Despite that, the film turned out to be a huge disappointment and failure in the Telugu states and in other languages too. The Tamil version of the film performed well and turned out to be a good hit.
With the less than impressive performance of PS1, there are almost no expectations on PS2, which is set to be released on April 28th. The second part is also being promoted extensively by the cast, who have even said that the second part wouldn’t be as confusing as the first.
In-spite of all of this, there is no buzz for PS2 in Telugu. Moreover, Agent is being allotted more theatres in the Telugu states, than PS1, as Agent is set to be released on the same day. With so many factors working against PS2, it is to be seen if there’s any hope for PS2 left or if the movie will follow its predecessor’s performance levels.
