The Andhra Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party seems perplexed about the kind of issues it should fight for, and against, in Andhra Pradesh. Pretty much everything that the YSRCP government is doing, is becoming controversial in the state, meaning that there’s a lot of stuff that the BJP can fight for. Finally, the AP BJP seems to have come to a decision, on which topic it should pick up, after a recent meeting held in Vijayawada.
Top leaders of the party were present in the meeting, including the party in charge Karunakaran. After much brainstorming, the AP BJP decided to oppose the property tax hike announced by the AP government. The AP government decided to impose property tax based on the current market value in the state. The BJP is said to have decided to fight this hike publicly, and MLC Madhav has also said that they would involve members of the Jana Sena on a large scale in this movement.
The AP BJP’s decision to fight against the property tax has now become a topic of concern, given that the YSRCP government didn’t make the decision on its own, and was coerced by the BJP, to implement Urban Reforms in AP. The BJP promised loans to YSRCP, following which the property tax hike came into the picture. Given that the YSRCP took the decision after the BJP’s coercion, people are questioning whether the AP BJP is carrying on its politics innocently. The YSRCP’s decision to install electric meters on agricultural properties was also the BJP’s idea.
While the AP BJP wanting to fight against the property tax hike is a good thing, opposition parties are laughing at the irony of the situation.
