Bedurulanka 2012 is a Telugu language comedy drama which is written & directed by Clax. The film has Kartikeya & Neha Shetty playing the lead roles while Ajay Ghosh, Vennela Kishore, Satya, Raj Kumar Kasireddy, Srikanth Ayyengar, ‘Auto’ Ram Prasad, Goparaju Ramana, LB Sriram, Getup Srinu, Surabhi Prabhavathi, Kittayya, Anithanath, Divya Narni & others are seen in important supporting roles. The music is composed by Mani Sharma and the film is produced by Ravindra Benerjee Muppaneni under Loukya Entertainments banner.

Story:

The film is set in a fictional place called Bedurulanka in 2012. The story explores the morality of people during the paranoia about the end of the world on December 21st, 2012. While on one side, Shiva (Kartikeya) returns to Bedurulanka after losing his job, a few greedy people in the same village try to take advantage of the possible 2012 apocalypse and mint money from their fellow villagers by exploiting fear. How does Shiva make the villagers realize the reality and confess the deeds amidst all the drama forms the crux of the film.

What about on-screen performances?

Kartikeya does a commendable job in his role as Shiva. He improves a lot in all aspects from his previous films and even his styling looks impressive in this film. Accepting a concept like this is where he wins as the leading man and it is good to see him try his hand in comedy too. This is for sure a decent comeback from this young actor after a series of not-so-great outings in the recent past after the blockbuster ‘RX 100’.

Neha Shetty looks gorgeous in her traditional look and shines well in the limited scenes she has. She looks damn cute with her nosepin and she shares good chemistry with Karthikeya.

Ajay Ghosh, Raj Kumar Kasireddy, Srikanth Ayyengar & ‘Auto’ Ram Prasad are superb in their respective comedy roles. All their scenes will raise decent laughs in the auditorium.

Satya & Vennela Kishore enter towards the end portions and they also add up to the madness with their trademark comedy.

Goparaju Ramana, LB Sriram, Getup Srinu, Surabhi Prabhavathi, Kittayya, Anithanath, Divya Narni & all the rest of the cast are good in their respective supporting roles.

What about off-screen talents?

The story by Clax is refreshing. The whole concept of the 2012- End of the World is interesting and placing this concept in a fictional village is a unique thought. His screenplay has its share of ups & downs. The first half of the film is where the film could have been a lot better with the narrative and the scenes. But the second half is very well written and moves at a fast pace with hilarious comedy, especially in the last 30 minutes of the film.

Special mention to the dialogues in the film. They are very well written and the witty one-liners are the main reason for all the laughs in the theatre.

Debut director Clax does a pretty good job with his craft. The way he sets up the entire plot in a fictional Godavari village and weaved comedy around the 2012 apocalypse with respect to greed and god is appreciable. Had he taken a little more care with the first half and the love track, the film’s result would have been even better.

The camera work by Sai Prakash U & Sunny Kurapati is first-rate. All the madness in the village is captured perfectly.

The songs by Mani Sharma are nice and go with the flow of the film. The Orabbo Song is the pick of the album. But it is his background score that takes the film to another level. He has given some excellent BGM after so long for this film.

Viplav Nyshadam is fine. A few dragged-out scenes & flat scenes here and there could have been trimmed a little.

The production values by Loukya Entertainments are good.

What’s Hot?

* Kartikeya & Neha Shetty’s Performances
* Unique Concept & Funny Dialogues
* Hilarious Last 30 Minutes
* All Comedians Performances
* Orabbo Song & Superb Background Score
* Cinematography & Production Values

What’s Not?

* Few Flat Scenes
* Love Track Could Have Been Better
* Middling First Half
* Unnecessary Songs

Verdict: On the whole, Bedurulanka 2012 is a fairly entertaining dramedy that has an ample amount of fun moments. Though it loses its steam in the middle portions & lacks consistency, the madness in the last hour will make up for it. A decent comeback film for Kartikeya!!
