Australia lifted their maiden T20 World Cup trophy with an absolute eight-wicket win over New Zealand in the title clash. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh led the team to victory with fantastic innings.
If we look at the last five T20 series Australia have played before the T20 World Cup, they faced five consecutive series defeats playing against England, India, New Zealand, West Indies, Bangladesh. But in the T20 World Cup, Aussies made a strong comeback with their best performance in real-time.
Batting first, New Zealand scored 172/4 in 20 overs with Kane Williamson scoring 85 runs while opener Martin Guptill contributed 28 runs. Australia opener David Warner scored 53 of 38 balls, and Marsh’s 50-ball unbeaten 77 meant that Australia overhauled the target with total ease in 18.5 overs.
Pacer Josh Hazlewood (3/16) took three out of four wickets, while leg-spinner Adam Zampa (1/26) recorded for one Australian batsman.
