In a tragic incident, at least 22 patients died on Wednesday after an oxygen tanker leaked outside Dr Zakir Hussain Hospital in Maharashtra’s Nashik.
As per reports, the oxygen tanker was leaked while refilling. The leakage caused the oxygen supply to stop for nearly 30 minutes.
Although the authorities fixed the leakage with the help of the fire department, the condition of patients on oxygen support in the meantime deteriorated and they lost their lives battling against the virus.
“As per the current information, 22 people have died because of the interrupted supply of oxygen at the Zakir Hussain municipal hospital. The patients were on ventilators and on oxygen supply, which got interrupted after the leakage in the oxygen supply tank,” district collector Suraj Mandhare said.
Responding to this incident, the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office announced an ex gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the kin of the dead. A high-level investigation has also been ordered to probe the tragic incident.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah offered condolences to the people who lost their loved ones in the Nashik incident.
