Former Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga has slammed Sri Lanka Cricket for inviting the second level India team to tour and tarnishing the country’s image.
Ranatunga, who led the country to the 1996 World Cup, has found a serious mistake in inviting the Indian team led by Shikhar Dhawan for the tour.
The 57-year-old cricketer said the tour undermined the country’s dignity. He also attacked Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka Cricket for allowing his countryside to play with Team B of India.
“This is a second-string Indian team and their coming here is an insult on our cricket. I blame the current administration for agreeing to play with them due to television marketing needs,” he said.
The Shikhar Dhawan-led young team has left for Sri Lanka as star players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant are on tour in England. The team will play three ODIs and three T20s. The tour is set to begin on the 13th of this month.
