The farmers of Amaravati have been protesting against the Andhra Pradesh government’s decision of 3 Capitals, ever since it was announced by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the AP assembly. They have been staging various protests and even filed several petitions in the AP High Court to this effect. These farms are now taking part in a Mahapadayatra, from Amaravati to Tirupati. Called ‘Court to Temple’, this padayatra covers 70 villages, before reaching Tirupati.
The farmers faced trouble when their padayatra was obstructed by the Police in the Nellore district. As a result, they staged a sit-in protest, leading to a huge traffic jam in the area. The farmers said that the police were obstructing their padayatra on the orders of the ruling YSRCP. They also said that they were denied any place for a night halt at Marupuru.
last week, the YSRCP government withdrew two legislations enacted last year, for THE trifurcation of the state capital. The government clarified that this was done to bring new and comprehensive legislation for developing three state capitals. The protestors have vowed to continue their protest till the government drops its plans and continues with Amaravati as the only capital.
