The issue of Special status being granted to Andhra Pradesh has been going on ever since the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in AP and Telangana. Ever since then, the two government’s in power from AP, and its representatives, have held meetings with Central Government, trying to get the Centre to grant special status to AP, but have failed to do so.
In a written reply to MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu’s question, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rao said that the Special Status for AP is a closed chapter and that there is no question of granting special status to AP at any cost. Representatives of the Telugu states did nothing but sit in silence while the Union Minister spoke. He said that 25 meetings have been held so far, with the governemtns of the two Telugu states, over the issues that were still pending, with regards to the bifurcation of the state.
The Centre has also said that the Centre was allocating funds at a 90:10 ratio for all the centrally sponsored schemes as special assistance. Also, the Centre is paying the interest amount for all the loans taken by the two-state governments from outside the country.
