Popular actor-director Pratap Pothen passed away today in Chennai. As per reports, the 70-year-old filmmaker was found dead in his apartment in the city. The housemaid who reached his flat this morning was the first to find out that Pothen has died.
In his career that spanned over four decades, Pratap Pothen acted in over 100 films in languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu.
Having started his career in the Malayalam movie Aavaram in 1978, Pothen bagged the Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category for his performance in the film Thakara in 1979. He also won Filmfare Award in the Best Actor category (Malayalam) with the movie Chamaram the very next year.
Some of his popular movies include Thanmathra, Ayalum Njanum Thammil, 22 Female Kottayam, Arikil Oraal, and Ezra, among others.
Pothen made his directorial debut with the movie Meendum Oru Kaathal Kadhai. He also won the best debut film of a director award for this flick.
