Temple organizers said the pujas would be held daily for 48 days and they would pray to the goddess to save people from the epidemic. The temple was built under the auspices of Kamatchipuri at Irugur in the suburbs of Coimbatore. A 1.5-foot black stone statue was erected in the vicinity of the temple. The goddess in the temple was named Goddess Corona. Temple sources said the puja would be held continuously for 48 days.
Authorities said that only priests and temple officials would be allowed into the Corona Devi temple in the wake of the corona.
