Andhra Pradesh State Election Commissioner, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had to face quite the trouble to make sure that his post was not taken away from him. His problems arose when he refused to conduct the local body elections in AP, in March, citing Coronavirus.
His refusal did not go down well with the CM, Jagan Mohan Reddy, and the other members of YSRCP. Hence, they all passed an ordinance against Nimmagadda, and almost removed him from his post. Nimmagadda didn’t let this happen and approached the High Court to make sure that he stays in office until his term is over.
The High Court’s judgement was in favor of Nimmagadda, which made the government approach the Supreme Court, to get a stay order on the High Court’s decision. To the dismay of the government, the Supreme Court refused to give a stay order several times.
Last week, the government finally re-appointed Nimmagadda as the SEC, after the Governor gave orders to do so. With that, Nimmagadda resumed his duties as the SEC of AP, at 11:15 AM today.
Speaking to the media, Nimmagadda said that he is ready to get back to his work without any sort of personal vendetta against the government, and that he is ready to fully cooperate with the government. He added that he sincerely hopes that the government also cooperates fully with him, and that they too hold no grudges against him.
