Important alert for motorists!. The central government is going to put forth new rules across the country. This is likely to have a negative impact on motorists as the Modi-led government is going to make a mandatory BIS regime as part of the new initiative to reduce deadly injuries. This can result in a fine even if you wear a helmet!.
Unlike never before once the new rule is imposed, the traffic police has the right to Levy penalty if riders fail to use a standard BIS mark helmet. Helmets bought on the roadside or any other place is less likely to have a BIS mark. Therefore careful consideration should be taken by the two wheeler riders before buying it. Once the process is enforced only BIS-certified helmets form two Wheeler riders would be developed and sold in the country.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways(MoRTH) has issued a draft notification regarding the new rule for bringing protective sturdy helmets under compulsory certification as per Bureau of Indian Standards act, 2016.
It further notified that such rule will also enhance the quality of the two wheeler helmets, which would improve road safety and thereby cuts down the possible fatal injuries. The MoRTH is currently in discussions and welcome suggestions in this aspect before forwarding the draft to the joint secretary (MVL), ministry of road transport and highways situated at Delhi.
