Corona is still on rise and is wreaking havoc inspite of second phase of lockdown. Many citizens ignored the lockdown carelessly. Shocking incident unfolds in Howrah, West Bengal, where the locals attacked the police for instructing them to follow lockdown rules. The mob pelted stones and tried to chase the police away.
The police were informed that the people were jostling at local market in the Tikiapara area. They rushed there to avoid it. Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel also arrived in a vehicle for a while. All urged the people to stay at home and not to violate the lockdown rules.
Police hinted that the corona can spread if assembled in groups and tried to make the crowd understand the severity of not maintaining social distancing. They didn’t pay heed to the repeated requests made by police men. Later, the RAF too joined to give a strong warning. But the locals who were reluctant had got into altercation with the police.
Hundreds of people at once attacked and injured the police men. They threw stones and sharp objects and fled from there. Two police personnel were injured in the incident.
