While Jio decided to charge 6 paise per minute for calls, customers of Vodafone – Idea felt that they will be the next target and feared on how much will this operator charge per minute. Interestingly, Vodafone – Idea decided to not charge any money to the customers in the name of IUC.
It is known that Vodafone – Idea is the No.1 telecom operator in India with respect to the customer base while Jio is in No.2. In 2018, Vodafone – Idea paid an amount of Rs.4214 Crores towards IUC, while Jio paid 2809 Crores as IUC. Slowly Jio wants to reduce this burden by charging 6 paise per minute towards IUC to the customers.
But Vodafone – Idea termed Jio’s move as ‘an act of undue haste’ and mentioned that their customers can be happy as they won’t be charging anything like that. Airtel too termed Jio’s move as attempt of forced tactics. Few customers are currently opting to move back to their old telecom operators from Jio, considering the IUC charges.
