Miss Universe Indonesia is one of the most popular beauty pageants in the world. The management of this beauty show have now landed in a controversy after the contestants complained of sexual abuse.
According to reports, several candidates, who are participating in the pageant, said that they were asked to strip naked for body checks. “The contestants were asked to take off their tops for “body checks” and photographs two days before the finals on 3 August,” a lawyer of one of the contestants said.
According to the police complaints registered by the women, the management asked the candidates to get naked in order to examine any scars, cellulite or tattoos on their bodies. However, the contestants felt that their rights were being violated as the organizers forced them to do. Some contestants also said that body checks were not done in a closed room.
Jakarta Police issued a statement saying they would investigate this matter.
