‘Nenu Student Sir’ is the latest movie in the town. It has released on the same day as ‘Ahimsa’, ‘Pareshan’ and ‘Chakravyuham: The Trap’. It is the second feature film from Ganesh Bllamkonda. Can he manage to put the failure of ‘Swathi Muthyam’ behind him? Is ‘NSS’ the film he needed? What is his sophomore outing about? We will tell you in this review.
Story:
Subbu (Bellamkonda Ganesh) is mad about possessing an iPhone. He buys the latest model by spending Rs 90,000. Since he hails from a middle-class family, he uses his hard-earned savings to buy the dream phone. However, due to a clash on the University campus where he is a student, his new iPhone ends up in the lap of the local police station.
Somehow, the iPhone gets misplaced, leaving Subbu a tad anxious. He woos Police Commissioner’s (Samuthirakani) daughter Shruti Vasudevan (Avantika Dassani) so that he can use her influence to impress upon the top cop to help him trace the iPhone. But there is a twist in the plot. What is the twist? Will it spoil Subbu’s peace?
On-screen performances:
Ganesh Bellamkonda is decent. He evokes sympathy for his travails. In the first half, he is seen in a timid role. In the second half, other acting shades kick in. Had the script been strong, his performance would have been much better. Debutante Avantika Dassani looks good, but she needs to work on her expressions. Her beautiful eyes are an asset.
Samuthirakani, after acting in bad guy roles in ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ and other movies, plays a character with secondary importance in the larger scheme of things. Srikanth Iyengar is forgettable. Sunil has an extended cameo. ‘Auto’ Ram Prasad can do negative roles well. Charandeep should have been better.
Off-screen performances:
Mahati Swara Sagar’s songs are not memorable. The background score is also a laggard if you compare it with the trends found in films like ‘Goodachari’ and even the recent ‘Ugram’ for that matter. The cinematography by Anith Madhadi and editing by Chota K Prasad don’t elevate the thrills.
Plus Points:
- Scam element
- Performances
Minus Points:
- Predictable story-telling.
- Dull narration.
- Superficial screenplay.
- Unimpressive climax.
Verdict:
‘Nenu Student Sir’ has no highs. The movie seems illogical and senseless. The comedy part didn’t work, but tested the patience of the viewers. Bellamkonda Ganesh should wait for one more film to get a success.
