Movie Ginna
Star Cast Vishnu Manchu, Sunny Leone, Payal Rajput
Director Eeshan Suryah
Producer Vishnu Manchu, Mohan Babu
Music Anup Rubens
Run Time 2h 16m
Release 21 Oct, 2022

Vishnu Manchu has made a comeback to the big screens after a year, with his last release being with Mosagallu, which was released last year. A lot of promotions have been done for Ginna, which carried decent expectations around it, and has finally been released today. Let’s see how the film has fared.

Story:

Gali Nageswara Rao, alias Ginna, is a small-town boy, who aspires to be the President of his town. He meets Renuka, a girl who can neither speak nor hear, during his childhood, and they both become good friends. However, Renuka soon leaves for America, while Ginna continues to stay in his town with his friends. Renuka returns to the town after several years, but there’s a catch. What’s the catch and how does it relate to Ginna forms the rest of the story.

On-Screen Performances:

Vishnu Manchu has evidently given his best, which shows on the big screen. The actor has very much improved his acting, dialogue delivery and performance skills. However, he did deliver a poor Chittoor accent, and he has been very passable when it comes to some key scenes.

Sunny Leone is the major surprise of the film, packing a lot of stuff in her character. She has been given a meaty role which she made use of very well. Payal Rajput’s character doesn’t have any impact on the film.

The supporting cast is good in their roles, with Chammak Chandra and Vennela Kishore making the most out of what they have been given.

Off-Screen Technicalities:

The story written by Kona Venkat is nothing new to the Telugu audience, as they have seen many such stories in the past, in various shapes and forms. The director also falters in the execution of the story in several areas. The screenplay has been written by Mohan Babu himself, and while it is good in parts, it mostly turns out to be immensely boring as the film progresses. The emotional depth that the opening sequence of the film carries is very good, but is unfortunately not carried forward at all.

The background score and the music of the film are one of the main assets of the film, with Anup Rubens giving an amazing background score and good songs. The cinematography is good enough.

The editing could have been much crisper, as there are several sequences throughout the movie that felt like they were dragged on unnecessarily. The production values of the film are very good.

Plus Points:

  • Sunny Leone’s performance
  • Background Score and music

Minus Points:

  • Lack of emotional connect
  • Too much lag
  • Outdated story

Verdict: Ginna is passable at best. It is not a new story, with the plot revealed much too late in the film. It can be watched once in the theatres at best, and has nothing new to offer the audeince. The commercial aspects of the film are okay.
