United States President Joe Biden has tested positive for Coronavirus on Thursday, the White House announced. He is the second U.S. president after Donald Trump to get the virus.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that the President was experiencing mild symptoms and begun taking an antiviral drug called Paxlovid, which is designed to reduce the severity of the disease.
The secretary said Biden will isolate at the White House and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. “He has been in contact with members of the White House staff by phone this morning, and will participate in his planned meetings at the White House this morning via phone and Zoom from the residence,” she added.
As per reports, the 79-year-old President took two doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. While he was administered with the first dose in September, the additional dose was given on March 30.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished US President Joe Biden a speedy recovery. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “My best wishes to @POTUS @JoeBiden for a quick recovery from COVID-19, and prayers for his good health.”
