An Indian-origin, Malathi Kanche, who went missing in Bridgewater floodwaters in New Jersey, has been found dead, her family members said.

According to reports, Hurricane Ida had triggered flash floods killing 65 people across the US, with the majority of deaths in New Jersey, New York and Louisiana.

Hurricane Ida, which made landfall on August 29 in Port Fourchon, Louisiana, is the second-most destructive hurricane to hit the state after Hurricane Katrina (2005).

Going by reports, Malathi Kanche, 46, a software designer, was driving home with her daughter when her vehicle stopped in floodwater on Route 22 of Bridgewater. While her daughter knew swimming and was able to come out of the flood, Kanche was pulled into the current.

Initially, officials put Kanche on the list of “missing persons”. However, Friday, she was confirmed dead.

Another Indian origin, Danush Reddy, 31, was also found dead in the floods. As per reports, he fell near a 36-inch-wide sewer pipe after losing his balance and was found miles away.
