In the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Deepak Chahar had played brilliant innings and added 84 runs for the 8th wicket partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to win the match.
At the losing stage, Chahar played a key role in winning the series with one match remaining. Vice-captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who appears to have taken 3 wickets in the match, responded in a post-presentation after the match victory.
“I saw a great match today. Deepak Chahar’s super innings kept us going. I was happy to help him not to take another wicket at the crucial moment. Now I want our coach Rahul Dravid to be happy after the victory. Because Dravid seems to be under tension during the match. He was seen talking to Rahul Chahar, especially while Deepak Chahar was playing. The challenge for us is to have him as the coach for this series. After the match victory, that coolness appeared again in Dravid. We focused on a clean sweep,” Bhuvneshwar said.
Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 275 for 9 wickets in 50 overs. In the chase, India lost 7 wickets in 49.1 overs and won by 277 runs. ‘Player of the Match’ Deepak Chahar (69 not out off 82 balls; 7 fours, 1 six) played an outstanding inning. Suryakumar Yadav (53 off 44 balls; 6 fours) scored a half-century. The final third ODI will be played on the 23rd of this month.
