The state governments and the union governments of every country are increasing the pace in the vaccination process to protect people against coronavirus. However, in May, the Indian government has increased the gap between the two doses of the Covishield vaccine from 12 to 16 weeks.
Dr Anthony Fauci, an American epidemiologist, responded to this and warned that increasing the gap between vaccine doses would pose a threat. Extending the gap between the two doses of the vaccine is dangerous. The government says increasing the gap between two doses of the vaccine will increase the effectiveness of the vaccine. Fauci however, suggested that the prescribed schedule should be followed instead of increasing the gap in vaccination. Vaccines need to be given as soon as possible to thwart the virus.
