With the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, the infection is spreading fastly, making new records almost daily in terms of fresh cases.
In a shocking development, India has yet again reported over 1.6 lakh cases on Tuesday. With 161,736 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases reached 13,689,453.
Besides a massive surge in cases, the country also reported 879 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,71,058.
Apparently, India is in the fourth spot in the Covid death tally behind the US, Brazil and Mexico. However, the Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours are slightly lower than the previous day, where the country saw the highest spike of 1.68 lakh cases. Meanwhile, the number of recoveries on Tuesday stood at 1,22,53,697.
On the positive side, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has approved the emergency use authorisation of the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V.
