England defeated India in the first test at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match test series.
The visitors combined bowling effort has cleaned up the India batting order on Day 5 to register a famous win in Chennai. With the outstanding 227-run victory, England took a 1-0 lead in the 4-Test series. Resuming on the overnight score of 39/1, hosts batted horribly and lost all the wickets post-lunch.
Skipper Virat Kohli’s fighting 72 of 104 and Shubman Gill’s brilliant 50 couldn’t help India to chase the big target and the hosts were bowled at 192 at 58th Over. Apart from Virat and Gill, no other batsmen kept the scoreboard running.
In the second innings, Jack Leach took four wickets while James Anderson picked three on his name. Jofra Archer, Dominic Bess and Ben Stokes helped the team by taking a wicket each. A huge win over India in the first Test has propelled England to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings.
