After scoring 178 runs in the second innings, England has put a massive target of 420 runs ahead of India on the Day 4 of the first Test match, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.
India had bowled brilliantly in the second innings and contained the visitors for 178. However, England’s massive score of 578 in the first innings has helped them to give a fighting total the hosts.
Joe Root was the top performer for England, scoring 40 off 32 deliveries. Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin damaged the English batsmen and took six wickets, which included the dismissals of Rory Burns (0), Dom Sibley (16), Ben Stokes (7), Dom Bess (25), Jofra Archer (5) and James Anderson (0). On the other hand, Shahbaz Nadeem took two wickets, while Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah took a wicket each.
Keeping ahead of a big target, India lost opener, Rohit Sharma to Jack Leach. He scored only 12 runs and departed to the dugout. With the 4th day coming to the end, India is at 39/1 and still 381 runs behind in the chase of a massive target of 420. Let us wait and see who will get upper hand tomorrow and grabs the victory.
