Until now, it was believed that the TRP ratings of only Hindi and other nationalized TV channels were rigged. However, it has now come to light that regional TV channels, and especially Telugu TV channels are also a part of this rigging.
The chairman of BARC, the organisation that records these TRP ratings, Partho Dasgupta is currently in jail for rigging these TRP ratings. The Mumbai Police Department is conducting an investigation into this issue currently, as part of which all of this information has come out.
The ratings of ABN and TV 5 are said to have been reduced on purpose, while the ratings of channels like TV9 and Sakshi have intentionally been rigged. The email conversations related to this rigging have also surfaced, and are doing the rounds in media circles right now.
It is also being said that the ratings of TV channels belonging to certain political parties are being favored, and are being given more TRP ratings, while the channels belonging to other channels are intentionally being reduced.
The detailed investigation on this issue is being carried on by the Police department, and everything related to the issue is being pulled out at the moment. More details about the issue are still being awaited.
