The GHMC elections turned out to be a major disappointment for the TRS party, as it was not able to secure the type of victory it was hoping for. While TRS got the majority of the votes, the TRS’s performance in the recent GHMC elections is a disgrace when compared to its performance in the last elections.
Despite winning most of the seats, the number of seats that the TRS has won is not enough for it to secure the Mayor seat. Previously, it was speculated that the TRS might seek the support of the MIM for the Mayoral post.
However, with the current political scenario in the state, with the BJP winning a considerable amount of seats, and due to other recent developments, the TRS is said to be in no mood to seek the support of the MIM. The MIM though, is ready to extend its support to the TRS, if asked for.
According to the latest reports, the TRS is coming up with a new plan to secure the Mayoral post. An in-house voting is reportedly being considered, where the Mayoral candidate will be selected by the Corporators and ex-officio members. One candidate will be chosen from TRS, BJP and MIM, and voting will be done by the method of raising hands to show support to the preferred member.
Considering that the TRS has won the most number of votes in comparison to both the BJP and MIM, it is natural that the TRS will be able to win the Mayoral post through this voting method. This method is reportedly being considered seriously by the TRS, so that it doesn’t have to depend upon anyone to secure the Mayoral post, and get it all by itself.
