In a shocking incident, a Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA from Odisha had rammed his car into a crowd in Khurda district Saturday afternoon, leaving 23 people, including seven police personnel, injured in the incident.
BJD MLA from Chilika, Prashant Jagdev had allegedly rammed his car into the crowd at Banapur Block Development Office (BDO) when a huge crowd gathered outside BDO for the block chairperson election.
Following the incident, the MLA was severely thrashed by a mob there. “The severely injured MLA was shifted to Tangi Hospital and later to Bhubaneswar for treatment. No casualties were reported,” said superintendent of police (SP) Alekh Chandra.
The MLA, who is responsible for the incident, was suspended from BJD in October last year after he attacked a BJP leader. He was also sacked from the post of chairperson of the Khurda district planning committee.
