The engineering academic year will start from August 17 in Telangana as per recent norms announced by Telangana government. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has sanctioned 201 engineering colleges across the state, while on the flip side another 16 colleges have applied for closure for a transient phase and are about to shut down. With this, 16 engineering colleges in the state will be closed this academic year. Unfortunately around 4,000 seats in the respective colleges were applied by students to JNTU for first year admissions.
Due to the inadequacy of admissions in those colleges for certain period, last year there were less than 70 admissions in all the branches combined and the status quo hasn’t changed previous years too eventually making the administration to apply for closure. As a result, affiliated recognition to the respective colleges this academic year has not been granted.
AICTE, on the other hand, has previously made it clear that only half of the seats will be allowed if admissions are less than 30 per cent for three consecutive years. State universities stated that they would take admissions in colleges where less than 25 per cent seats are filled.
