Bad blood has been brewing between the YSRCP government and Andhra Pradesh SEC, Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, ever since he cancelled the local elections in early 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. All the drama that took place between the government and the SEC ever since then is public knowledge.
The government had tried its best to make sure that the local elections are not held right now, despite Nimmagdda wanting to conduct them at any cost. The government did everything it could, to get its way, but the Supreme Court passed its judgment in favor of Nimmagadda, asking the government to cooperate with the SEC.
Ever since then, members of the YSRCP, especially Panchayati raj minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy have been using harsh language against the SEC. Peddireddy went as far as saying that Nimmagadda is behaving as Chandrababu Naidu‘s peon, than the head of a constitutional body.
Peddireddy even said that the SEC wrongly accused him of not abiding by the Supreme Court’s orders, simply to take action against him. He even said that the only reason for Nimmagadda to transfer Gopala Krsihna Dwivedi is because he did not let Chandrababu function as the CM during the 2019 local elections.
Peddireddy said that it is unfortunate that Nimmagadda is the SEC, and said that it is important for the gram panchayats to be elected unanimously. He added that no sort of irregularities would be tolerated, and people indulging in such activities would not be spared.
