YSR Congress Party spokesperson Karumuru Venkat Reddy was arrested in Hyderabad on Tuesday by Tadipatri Rural Police from Andhra Pradesh. Officers located him in an apartment in Kukatpally based on mobile signals and took him into custody before transporting him to AP. Police say several cases have been registered against him in Andhra Pradesh in recent weeks. One of the key issues involves the Tirumala Parakamani case, in which complainant Satish Kumar was found murdered near a railway track in Tadipatri on November 14. This incident pushed the police to intensify their investigation.
Karumuru also faces allegations of making objectionable comments against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu during a TV debate that followed the Kurnool bus accident. Based on a complaint from TDP leader Prasad Naidu, the Tadipatri Rural Police registered a case for his remarks, describing them as damaging to the government’s reputation.
The YSRCP has strongly condemned the arrest, accusing the TDP government of misusing power and targeting opposition voices. The party posted videos on social media alleging that the state is being run in a “dictatorial manner” and that critics of the government are being harassed with arrests and false cases.
Karumuru’s wife, Haritha, also released a video statement claiming that police entered their house saying they only wanted to “inform” them, later changed their version to issuing notices, and finally took her husband away for questioning. She said the officers seized both her phone and her husband’s phone and warned them not to contact anyone. After arguments, she said, her phone was returned, but Venkat Reddy was taken away by the police and more details are expected as the investigation continues.
