The ongoing panchayat elections in Andhra Pradesh – more commonly known as the local elections – have nothing to do with political parties or their symbols. This makes it hard to know which party has won with a majority.
The results of the first phase polls came out today, and both the YSRCP and TDP are busy claiming victory, Both the parties are saying that the candidates that they supported have won with a huge majority. Members of the YSRCP are even saying that their candidates have won nearly 500 out of 580 seats. On the other hand, there’s no word from parties like BJP or Jana Sena.
It is being said that the TDP is in talks with several groups that have contested in the local elections, supporting them currently, in return for their support for the TDP to win in the 2024 elections. These said groups have contested in the elections against the YSRCP, and the agreement between these groups and TDP is reportedly causing a lot of problems for the YSRCP.
Oppositions are also welcoming the huge numbers of voters during polls, and are saying that these huge numbers indicate that the people are not happy with the current government.
