YS Vivekananda Reddy was murdered last year, right before the general elections, at his own house in Pulivendula. A group of unknown members attacked the Minister’s house, and murdered him.
When Viveka was murdered, Chadnrababu Naidu was the Chief Minister, and Jagan was in the opposition. Jagan demanded for a CBI enquiry into the case, and even alleged that Chandrababu was behind the murder of Vivekananda. However, after Jagan came to power, he said that there was no necessity for a CBI enquiry.
After having felt that justice was not being served to her father’s death in the rule of her brother Jagan, Viveka’s daughter appealed for a CBI investigation in the High Court, and the case was handed over to the CBI from July 9th. Probing has been taking place ever since then, and the CBI team has also investigated several members so far.
Now, a major obstruction has been caused to this ongoing investigation, because of Coronavirus. Seven out of the 15 member CBI team have contracted Coronavirus, because of which the investigation has come to a sudden stop. Everyone believed that the investigation would be postponed until a later time – till when everyone in the team is back to good health. But, a new CBI team has now been appointed, which will take the case forward from where it has been left by the previous team.
After the Police department failed to come to any conclusions about Viveka’s death, his family was disappointed by the way the death was being treated by the local authorities, which is why they filed a petition in the High Court for a CBI enquiry.
