Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has faced a backlash in the Bombay High Court. The court ruled that Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra’s case could not be prevented from appearing in the news media and on social media.
It is learned that Raj Kundra was arrested in connection with the shooting of pornographic films. Mumbai police are also questioning Shilpa Shetty in connection with the case. In this context, the Shilpa-Raj Kundra couple’s affair has been widely reported in the media.
In this context, Shilpa Shetty approached the Bombay High Court, alleging that the media is defaming her name. She filed defamation suits against several media outlets seeking to block articles being published about themselves on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
Shilpa’s petition came up for hearing on Friday. Shilpa Shetty’s lawyer, who was present on the occasion, said, “It is inappropriate to write about the conversation between the couple in the media (Shilpa’s emotional outburst when the police came home with Kundra, referring to the altercation between them).”
Responding to this, Justice Gautam Patel said, “Reportage of something based on what police sources have said is not defamatory. If this had happened in the four walls of your house with no one around, then the issue is different. But this has happened in the presence of outsiders. How is this defamation?”
“You chose a life in the public eye, then all this will come as part of the territory. Your life is under a microscope,” Justice Patel added.
