The Jagan government is slowly becoming famous for all of their failed plans and failed policies. The government has been trying to take everything into their control ever since they came to power. As part of this, the government tried to introduce a rule wherein they would have the power to solely appoint the Vice Chancellor of any university in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
However, this policy too backfired in their own face, when the governor and other legal experts did not approve the bill. The UGC had laid down certain rules way back in 2010, which prevent the politicization of process of appointing a VC of a university.
As a result, the government can only nominate one name as VC, which is to be submitted to the governor. The universities that the government wanted to have sole control of include Sri Venkateswara, Sri Krishnadevaraya, Andhra, etc.
After realizing the various legal complications involved in approving the government’s policy of appointing the VC, the governor returned the file the government submitted to him, causing the government’s plan to backfire in their own face.
