The government of Andhra Pradesh has been falling short on a lot of its promises, especially the issue regarding giving away lands and houses to all the poor people of the state.

These plots and lands were supposed to be given away to the poor on Ugadi initially, but it got postponed to Ambedkar Jayanthi. Later, it was further postponed to YSR’s birthday, and it was yet again postponed to Independence day. Even on Independence Day, the government failed to give away these lands as promised.

Additionally, the government is facing a lot of setbacks with respect to this issue, especially legally, where it has been getting warnings from both the High Court and the Supreme Court. The HC gave a stay order when the government decided to give away lands in Amaravathi, and the SC supported the HC as well, when the government requested the SC to cancel the HC’s stay order.

Now, the government is planning to give away lands of the Telugu University that was founded by former Chief Minister N.T.Rama Rao, for the progression of the Telugu language and culture in the state, country and world. There are three places where the University is present: Hyderabad, Srisailam and Rajahmundry.

The government now plans to strip the Rajahmundry campus off 20 acres, of the 45 acres that it was allocated with, and distribute it to the poor, under the Pedalandariki Illu Scheme. This scheme was launched by CM Jagan to give houses to all the poor. In these lands, the government plans to construct 26.6 Lakh houses within the next 4 years. Several lands are being made ready for this purpose, where 14,097 YSR Jagananna housing colonies would be built.

The High Court has now ordered the government to halt all of these plans and asked the government to not give away public lands allocated for universities, schools and colleges. This would forfeit the purpose of allocating these lands to educational institutions in the first place.

This judgement yet again proves that the High Court and the Government are not on the same page regarding any issue, which is creating huge problems for the government, which has been trying to do whatever it pleases since the day it took charge.

It really is high time that the government realises that it can’t just do whatever suits its interests, and that it has to take into consideration several factors when the public and people are concerned.
