It is known that Mumbai’s civic body on Wednesday declared that India’s first case of the XE variant had been identified in the city.
After Mumbai, the reports suggest that a new case of XE, a sub-variant of Omicron, has been detected in Gujarat. According to reports, the patient tested positive for Covid-19 on March 13 and recovered in a week.
After genome-sequencing, it has been learned that the patient was infected with the XE variant of Covid-19. However, the sample will be re-examined to confirm that it is the XE variant, government sources said.
The new variant, XE, is a mutant hybrid of two versions of Omicron – BA.1 and BA.2. The officials said that the new mutant may be more transmissible than any strain of Covid. Meanwhile, all government and private hospitals have been instructed to take necessary steps to prevent Covid infections.
