An Iranian loner named Amou Haji, also known as the “dirtiest man in the world”, passed away at the age of 94 in the village of Dejgah in Iran’s southern province of Fars. He hadn’t taken a shower for more than half a century, as he was afraid of water.
It is reported that a few months ago, a few villagers forced him to wash for the first time in over 60 years. Not long after that, he fell ill and finally breathed his last on Sunday.
As he had no family or a home, the affectionate villagers built him a cinderblock shack, so he would stop falling asleep in a hole in the ground. For decades, Haji had avoided eating fresh food for fear of getting sick.
Owing to his special record, a short documentary titled ‘The Strange Life of Amou Haji’ was done in 2013, chronicling his life.
