Actor-turned-politician, Kamal Haasan-led Makkal Needi Mayyam (MNM) party has faced a disastrous defeat in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Recently, the entire working group, including the vice president, resigned from the party. The MNM, which contested 154 seats out of a total of 234 in the recent elections, but none of the party candidates won. Kamal Haasan, who contested from the Coimbatore South constituency as the chief ministerial candidate leading the Indian Jananayaka Katchi alliance, lost to a BJP candidate. Leaders of Makkal Needi Mayyam and political analysts say that Kamal will leave politics due to the disastrous defeat.
However, Kamal said, “I don’t care much for cowards who run away in fear of defeat. There is no change in my goal, we will move forward for the motherland and for the people.” It remains to be seen what Kamal will decide.
